Garmin Venu 2 Plus and Vivomove Sport: Not just fitness anymore

Garmin just launched two new smartwatches at CES 2022: the Venu 2 Plus and the Vivomove Sport. Historically making watches that cater to fitness buffs, Garmin is expanding their products to be more like regular smartwatches, competing with the likes of Apple and Samsung.

Garmin Venu 2 Plus

The Venu 2 launched in April 2021 and the new Venu 2 Plus certainly improves on the previous model. The biggest addition to the device is the voice function, with the watch having a speaker and microphone now. Not only does this mean that you can use voice assistants, but most importantly, you can have calls directly on the Venu 2 Plus. Garmin doesn’t have their own voice assistant, so the device just uses the assistant on your phone.

Design-wise, the Venu 2 Plus definitely looks like a Garmin. It’s bulky, but still looks quite refined. The display is circular and the screen features an AMOLED display with optional always-on mode. There is only one size at 43mm and it has a battery life of about nine days in smartwatch mode and eight hours while using GPS and music. Ten minutes of charging will add one day of smartwatch mode battery life or one hour of GPS with music battery life.

The watch has 5 ATM rated water-resistance and supports the usual tracking features such as heart rate, sleep tracking, blood oxygen saturation, and even other stuff like respiration tracking, and fitness age.

The Garmin Venu 2 Plus is available now on Garmin’s website with a suggested retail price of USD449.99 (~RM 1,886).

Garmin Vivomove Sport

The Vivomove Sport on the other hand is an ‘entry-level’ hybrid analog smartwatch. The design of this watch looks quite sleek and stylish while keeping the ‘sport’ feel. It comes with a silcone strap.

It has tracking features like stress tracking, sleep monitoring, heart rate, and oxygen saturation level. It does not come with GPS, but you can sync it to your phone’s GPS to track your distance and pace during your workouts.

In terms of battery life, the Vivomove Sport offers five days in smartwatch mode and six days in regular watch mode (just the hands moving). The device is also rated to 5 ATM water-resistance.

Compared to something like the latest Apple Watch, these watches have a great battery life at a fraction of the cost.

The Garmin Vivomove Sport is now available on their website for USD179.99 (~RM754) and comes in black, white, brown, and mint green.
