Huawei P50 Pro Malaysia
The Huawei P50 Pro was launched in July this year and it’s seen as the last smartphone to feature a camera that’s co-engineered with Leica. The device is likely to be released in Malaysia in early 2022.
In terms of specs, the Malaysian version will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip without 5G and it comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. Upfront, the device gets a 6.6″ dual-curved OLED display that pushes a 2700×1228 pixels resolution and a high 120Hz refresh rate.
For taking pictures, the big “dual-camera” bump element houses a quad-camera setup that consists of a 50MP f/1.8 main camera, a 40MP mono f/1.6 shooter, a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera and a 64MP telephoto camera that supports up to 100x digital zoom (3.5x optical zoom). The device has a tiny punch-hole on the screen which houses a 13MP selfie shooter.
Powering the device is a 4,360mAh battery which supports 66W Huawei wired SuperCharge and 50W wireless charging. It also gets IP68-rated dust and water resistance. In China, the P50 Pro with Snapdragon 888 and 128GB of storage costs CNY 5,988 (about RM3,941). As you would expect, the device doesn’t come with Google Mobile Services.
Huawei P50 Pocket Malaysia
The P50 Pocket is essentially Huawei’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 featuring a foldable display in a flip phone factor. On the outside, it gets a unique circular 1.04″ OLED cover display pushing 340 x 340 pixels resolutions, while the inside gets a flexible 6.9″ Full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood, it also runs on a Snapdragon 888 chip without 5G and it comes with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage for the Premium Edition. According to the local product page, there’s a “standard” P50 Pocket variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage.
In the camera department, the outer cover gets a triple-camera setup with a 40MP main camera, 13MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 32MP “ultra spectrum camera” which claims to offer better clarity and visibility of light in your photos. On the internal screen, there’s a tiny punch-hole with a 10.7MP selfie camera.
Powering the P50 Pocket is a respectable 4,000mAh battery that supports 40W fast charging via USB-C. Unlike Samsung’s new foldable devices, it lacks IP68 dust and water resistance, and there are also no Google Mobile Services. In China, the P50 Pocket is priced from CNY 8,988 (about RM5,925) while the Premium version costs CNY 10,988 (about RM7,244), which is significantly more expensive than the Galaxy Z Flip series.
