Nokia T20 tablet runs on an ultra-budget processor and it costs more than RM1,000

In the final hours of 12.12 sale, HMD global has unveiled the pricing of the Nokia T20 in Malaysia. This is a new budget tablet with a stock Android experience that costs more than RM1,000.

Nokia T20 Malaysia pricing and availability

The Nokia T20 is officially priced at RM1,099 in Malaysia and it is only offered with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage. The Nokia T20 is now available for purchase on both Lazada and Shopee with a single Deep Ocean colour option. However, it isn’t clear if this is a WiFi-only model or if it supports 4G LTE connectivity.

As part of its introductory offer, the Nokia online store is offering a free rugged flip cover worth RM229 while stocks last.

Nokia T20 Specs

Ironically-named the T20, the tablet is more of an entry-level device but it does stand out in some areas. Upfront, it gets a large 10.4″ 2K display that pushes a resolution of 2000×1200 pixels and a maximum brightness of 400 nits. It also gets a pair of stereo speakers with OZO playback which promises to offer immersive listening experience.

Under the hood, it runs on a 12nm Unisoc T610 processor. Unisoc chips are typically found in ultra-budget devices like the Nokia C2, Yes Altitude 4, Realme C25Y and the Moto e40. For the T610, it gets two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 1.8GHz and two Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.8GHz. It looks quite similar to the MediaTek Helio G80 but the Unisoc chip runs at a slightly lower clock speed.

If the internal 64GB storage isn’t enough, you can expand more via a microSD card up to 512GB extra. For taking pictures, it gets an 8MP main camera while the front comes with a 5MP shooter. In terms of connectivity, it supports 5GHz 802.11ac WiFi, while the LTE variant also comes with GPS/AGPS support. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack which is positioned on the bottom left corner of the tablet.

The Nokia T20 gets a rather large 8,200mAh battery which claims to last up to 10 hours of movies or up to 15 hours of web surfing. It supports 15W fast-charging via USB-C, however, only a 10W charger is included in the box. The device features a sandblasted aluminium body and it weighs 465g with a thickness of 7.8mm.

Nokia describes the T20 as a tablet that’s designed to last with 2 years of OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates. Out of the box, it runs on Android 11 and it has Google Kids Space which provides parental controls with Family Link. If you’re ready to spend more than RM1,000 on a tablet, you’re better off with the latest 10.2″ iPad 2021 which is priced from RM1,499 for the 64GB WiFi version.

The entry-level 9th gen iPad runs on a more powerful Apple A13 Bionic chip and it comes with a superior Retina display (2160×1620 pixels) that offers 500 nits of maximum brightness. Most importantly, iPadOS is a much more polished operating system compared to Android, and you can be assured of getting more than 3 years of operating system updates. Even the iPad Air 2 from 2014 is still able to get the latest iPadOS 15.

Even if you prefer to get an Android tablet, there are better options in the market such as the Realme Pad which is priced from as low as RM799. There’s also the Xiaomi Pad 5 which gets a powerful Snapdragon 860 processor for RM1,399 but for the price, it is still more worthwhile to step up to an iPad.
