Qualcomm likely to launch the Snapdragon 898 during the Snapdragon Tech Summit happening from 30 November

Around the end of the year, Qualcomm will kick off its annual Snapdragon Tech Summit, and this year is no different as they’ve just confirmed that this year’s event will be held from the 30th of November till the 2nd of December.

Heading on to their event page, you’ll be greeted with a big countdown banner giving you some info to the event itself. Starting at 7am the next day local time, Qualcomm invites anyone to ‘catch the wave’ so to speak, with a video loop of the ocean and an island in the background. Qualcomm themselves may be headquartered in San Diego, but as usual the event will be held in Hawaii. They’re also promising some big new innovations this year, teasing the new Snapdragon chip and its capabilities.

“Say aloha to our bold new vision for the tech industry. Snapdragon Technology goes big this year by revolutionising the mobile experience with metaverse enabled technology.

Keynotes will debut the latest Snapdragon premium tier mobile platform and showcase industry-leading technology innovations across camera, AI, gaming and connectivity.” – Snapdragon Tech Summit event page

As for what we can expect to hear, well it will most likely be the upcoming Snapdragon 888 successor. Believed to be called either the Snapdragon 898 or Snapdragon 895, earlier leaks have suggested that it will come with an ARM Cortex-X2 prime CPU core powered by the new Armv9 architecture. It’ll run at up to 3.09GHz, features a new Adreno 730 GPU, an X65 5G modem and is expected to be built on a 4nm process. There’s also been word that there will be a ‘Plus’ variant too.

Incidentally, this will also be the first Snapdragon Tech Summit with their new CEO Cristiano Amon. Amon had only assumed the role back in June of this year, and will be the featured speaker for the event. If you’re interested in watching the event yourself, you can visit the event page and sign up for emails from the Snapdragon Tech Summit.
