Teens fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are now allowed in cinemas for Phase 4 states and Sarawak

Teens who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are finally able to watch movies in cinemas in selected states. Prior to this, only fully vaccinated adults aged 18 years old and above are allowed into cinemas nationwide. The new SOP which allows all fully vaccinated individuals regardless of age will be in effect from Monday 18th October for Sarawak and Phase 4 states under the National Recovery Plan such as Selangor, Labuan, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang and Melaka.

An individual who has received a two-dose vaccine such as Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac is only counted as fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving the second dose. Those who have gotten a single-dose vaccine such as Johnson & Johnson and CanSino are considered fully vaccinated 28 days after getting the vaccination. At the moment, the National Immunisation Programme is vaccinating children aged 12 years old and above against COVID-19.

For other Phase 3 states such as Perlis, Terengganu, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perak, Kelantan, Johor and Sabah, individuals below 18 years old are still not allowed in cinemas regardless of their vaccination status. In terms of operating hours, cinemas in Phase 3 states are allowed to open until midnight while Phase 4 states can open until late.

As announced by the Prime Minister recently, the government has lifted more restrictions which include allowing eHailing providers to carry up to the maximum passenger limit, while highway rest stops can operate 24 hours a day. The mandatory quarantine period for fully vaccinated travellers from overseas has been reduced to 7 days, while partially or non-vaccinated individuals are required to be quarantined for 10 days. Fully vaccinated individuals who are placed under quarantine due to close contact with a positive case are also given a shorter quarantine period of 7 days.
