Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced relaxation of restrictions for the creative industry which covers live performances, studios and cinemas. If you’re planning to watch the latest movies on the big screen, cinemas may reopen starting this Thursday, 9th September 2021 with strict SOP. This is applicable for Phase 1 states under the National Recovery Plan.

According to the Prime Minister’s statement, cinemas can operate with 50% seating capacity and it is only for individuals that have been fully vaccinated.

Besides cinemas, live performances including theatre, music, musical and comedy shows are also allowed on a pre-registration basis. However, audience capacity is capped at 30% and it is also limited to fully vaccinated individuals.

Recording and photography inside and outside the studios are also allowed for fully vaccinated people. Studio audience is permitted and it is only for fully vaccinated individuals with a 30% capacity.

Exhibitions including galleries and museums are also allowed for fully vaccinated individuals with a maximum 30% capacity. Indoor busking and lounge performance are allowed as well.

To recap, a person that have gotten a two-dose vaccine such as Pfizer, Sinovac or AstraZeneca, is only counted as fully vaccinated 14 days after getting the second shot. For individuals with a single-dose vaccine such as CanSino or Johnson & Johnson, you are only considered as fully vaccinated 28 days after injection. Individuals are required to show their MySejahtera app as proof of completed vaccination.

GSC Cinemas has posted on Facebook that they are reopening soon and they are telling everyone to stay tuned for more updates. TGV has also posted that they are also reopening their cinemas and you can soon catch Black Widow, The Suicide Squad, Fast 9 and Don’t Breathe 2 on the big screen.
