AirAsia only allow fully vaccinated passengers with immediate effect

AirAsia has announced that it is implementing a fully-vaccinated only rule for all passengers on its domestic and international flights. This new policy will be effective immediately on all AK flights and passengers must verify their COVID-19 vaccination status on the AirAsia app.

This means it is now mandatory for all guests to be fully vaccinated before they can board AirAsia flights. Meanwhile, unvaccinated or partially-vaccinated guests below 18 years old are still able to fly but they must be accompanied by fully vaccinated parents or relatives.

AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat said “The decision to accept only fully vaccinated guests for boarding is made in the best safety interest of our guests and employees. All our flights are operated by only fully-vaccinated pilots and cabin crew and this applies to all our ground services as well. We have also put in place numerous service enhancements and integration via the airasia Super App.”

The AirAsia super app is available on Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei AppGallery. Passengers can verify the required documents during check-in with the steps below:

If the verification process on the app is not successful, passengers will be issued a boarding pass with a “COVID-19 document verification required” notice. You will be required to verify your documents manually at the counter.

AirAsia said it is now mandatory to check in via the AirAsia super App to reduce physical interaction including paper, and this is to reduce the risk of infections. Passengers can check in as early as 14 days before the departure date. All passengers are also required to have a MySejahtera app and to wear a face mask at all times including before, during and after the flight. The airline recommends double masking and it warned that masks with open valve are not permitted on AirAsia flights.

According to AirAsia, all flights are operated only by fully-vaccinated crew and this also applies to their ground staff including baggage handling. For greater peace of mind, their aircraft are equipped with High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestor (HEPA) filters and the cabin air is completely refreshed every 3 minutes for the highest possible quality of air throughout the flight.

Malaysia is expected to lift interstate travel restrictions when 90% of the total adult population has been fully vaccinated. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has said Malaysians can travel overseas in December, or possibly earlier.
