RedMagic 6S Pro gaming phone powered by Snapdragon 888+ features 165Hz display and RGB cooling fan

Nubia’s RedMagic lineup of gaming smartphones have always been a good option for those seeking a powerful smartphone with a solid spec sheet to go along with it. The latest from them is no different: the RedMagic 6S Pro.

RedMagic 6S Pro specs

Immediately you’ll notice a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ system-on-chip under the hood as one of its big key features. It’s the most powerful SoC available around right now, and is already on other gaming devices like the Asus ROG Phone 5S. On the RedMagic 6S Pro, the Snapdragon 888+ gets mated to up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Keeping the temperatures in check is a built-in RGB turbo fan and a vapor chamber cooling system.

It’s also got a fairly decent screen, with the 6.8-inch FHD+ AMOLED display capable of a 165Hz refresh rate, the highest refresh rate on a smartphone right now (though the RedMagic 6 was the first to hit 165Hz). Nubia have fitted it with a touch sampling rate of 720Hz too for a response time just shy of 8ms. That’s not to say that it’s just for gaming though as Nubia claims a 100% coverage of the DCI–P3 colour gamut too. On the back, there’s a touchpad called the M-key that can be configured, while you also get two shoulder triggers too.

Camera-wise, you get a triple camera setup on the rear with a main 64MP shooter flanked by an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro lens. Meanwhile, there’s an 8MP selfie camera on the front. Nubia have packed a triple mic system here too for better audio, as well as stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack. You’ll also be glad to find a decently sized 5,050mAh battery with 66W fast charging. You’ll be able to power your phone directly from the wall too via the Charge Separation feature, which bypasses your battery altogether to improve battery lifespan.

Other features include a fingerprint sensor under the screen with heart rate detection, support for 5G, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.1 as well as the RedMagic OS 4.0 which is based on Android 11. The RedMagic 6S Pro comes in either a standard black or with a special transparent back.

Pricing and availability

According to Nubia, the RedMagic 6S Pro will be made available globally on the 27th of September onwards. However, there’s no word just yet as to whether or not it’ll come to Malaysia, as it’ll first be launched in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macao and Singapore in the Asian Pacific region for now. Furthermore, seeing as it won’t be launching in Malaysia on the 27th, there’s no local pricing either, though we do know how much it’ll cost elsewhere.

RedMagic 6S Pro, 12GB RAM, 128GB storage— USD 599 (~RM 2,490.64)

RedMagic 6S Pro, 16GB RAM, 256GB storage— USD 699 (~RM 2,906.44)

RedMagic 6S Pro Transparent, 16GB RAM, 256GB storage— USD 729 (~RM 3,031.18)

Hopefully though Nubia does decide to bring the RedMagic 6S Pro to our shores because on paper at least it’s looking like a solid contender to the Asus ROG Phone 5 and the Lenovo Legion Dual 2. For more information on the RedMagic 6S Pro in the meantime, you can check out its launch page here.
