COVID-19: 232 new deaths today bring total fatalities to 14,168. KL records less than 1,000 new cases today

Malaysia has recorded 19,807 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 1,555,093. There are 232 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 14,168. There are 5,144 deaths in August so far which is an average of 233.8 deaths per day. 43 out of 232 deaths today were brought in dead.

The Ministry of Health has reported 18,200 new recoveries and a total of 1,278,670 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 82.23% while the mortality rate is now 0.91%.

There are currently 262,255 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 1,026 are in ICU while 496 require respiratory support.

Out of the 19,807 new cases today, 5 are imported while 19,802 are transmitted locally. Selangor still tops the list with 5,379 cases, followed by Sabah with 2,638 cases, Kedah with 1,948 cases, Sarawak with 1,772 cases, Pulau Pinang with 1,501 cases, Johor with 1,391 cases and Kelantan with 1,196 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 24 new clusters today and half of them are work related. Below is the breakdown of the number of clusters by state:

98.3% of new cases reported today are category 1 and 2 where individuals exhibit little or no symptoms. 16,368 out of 19,807 cases (82.64%) are from individuals that have not completed their vaccinations.
