Realme to partner with Kodak for its next flagship smartphone?

It appears that Realme could be the next smartphone maker to partner with a photography brand to level up its camera experience. After introducing the Realme GT, it is now rumoured that a newer “GT Master Edition” is in the works and it will come with a prominent Kodak logo at the back.

A sample image posted by Realme VP Xu Qi Chase has fueled speculation of the new device. The black and white photo comes with a watermark that’s partially pixelated which makes it hard to confirm if this is indeed the device that’s developed in partnership with Kodak.

Several tipsters on Weibo had hinted that Realme will be working with a well-known camera manufacturer for an upcoming GT flagship smartphone. One tipster had initially said Realme is working on a co-branded phone with Kodak but the Weibo post has been deleted.

The purported Realme GT “Master Edition” device was spotted on China’s TENAA database and it looks pretty plain with a small Realme branding at the bottom. It looks more like a rehash of the OnePlus 9 Pro.

So far there are no confirmed details yet of the partnership and it’s worth pointing out that Kodak had attempted at making a smartphone previously. About 6 years ago, they introduced the Kodak IM5 which is an entry-level phone with a 13MP main camera. A year before that, they have also introduced an add-on PixPro Smart Lens camera accessory that offers up to 25X optical zoom and you can attach it to your smartphone.

To recap on the Realme GT, this is their latest flagship smartphone that runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. It gets a 6.43″ Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and it can be configured up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

For taking pictures, the rear gets a triple-camera setup featuring a 64MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro shooter. The punch-hole on the screen houses a 16MP selfie camera. Powering the device is a 4,500mAh battery and it supports SuperDart Charge 65W fast charging via USB-C. A full charge from zero is said to take just 35 minutes.

In Europe, the Realme GT is priced at EUR 449 (about RM2,242) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage version and EUR 599 (about RM2,991) for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. So far there’s no word yet about its availability and pricing for Malaysia.
