Is the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE launch delayed? Here’s Samsung’s response

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (“Fan Edition”) will soon be succeeded by a newer Galaxy S21 FE in the coming months. However, it appears that you might need to wait a little longer as reports suggest that the launch would be delayed due to component shortage.

South Korea’s ETNews initially reported that the Korean smartphone maker has suspended production of the S1 FE due to chip shortage. The global chip shortage is a problem that affects various industries worldwide and several manufacturers had to shut down due to a surge in new COVID-19 cases. A few days ago, it was also reported that the new Galaxy Tab S7 FE release is delayed also due to chip shortage.

However, there are other sources that claim that Samsung hasn’t even started production of the Galaxy S21 FE in the first place. Bloomberg has reached out to Samsung and the tech giant said although they can’t discuss details of any unreleased product, they deny any decision has been made about suspending production.

Interestingly, serial leakster Ice Universe said a source claimed that “something unexpected” has happened to the Galaxy S21 FE without elaborating further. At the time of writing, ETNews appears to have retracted its original report about the production delay.

This year, it appears that Samsung isn’t going to launch a brand new Galaxy Note model and it will focus on the Galaxy S21 series as its sole mainstream flagship throughout 2021. For the second half of the year, Samsung will be expanding its foldable category with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and a new Galaxy Z Flip successor. If you need a new device with an S Pen, Samsung’s current strategy is to expand the stylus experience to more devices as an optional add-on just like the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It was speculated that the S21 FE, despite being a budget phone, might come with support for an S Pen.

The Galaxy S21 FE is essentially a budget member of the S21 series while retaining most of Samsung’s flagship features. Based on early leaks, the device will get a flat 6.4″ display and is likely to come with a high-screen refresh rate. The device is expected to run on the current Snapdragon 888 processor and Samsung may introduce an Exynos variant as well.

In case you missed it, Samsung Malaysia is currently having a flash deal promo where you can get an additional RM400 eVoucher if you spend a minimum of RM4,000 on a single receipt. Want a proper Galaxy Note 20 with an S Pen? You can now get the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra with discount up to RM1,100 off.
