This Optimus Prime toy costs nearly RM3K, and can transform on its own

If you’re a fan of the Transformers franchise, this one is for you. Hasbro has announced a new partnership with Robosen Robotics, a robotics firm based in Shenzhen, China. The aim? A real-life Transformers model that can… well, transform. There is a variety of the above in the market (some of which aren’t exactly licensed by Hasbro), but the new Optimus Prime robot that has just been released might be the most realistic model thus far.

The Optimus Prime Auto-Converting Programmable Advanced Robot is now available for pre-orders at a steep price of USD 699.99 (~RM2,900), and it has the ability to transform on its own. All you need to do is to press a button (or use a mobile app, or use voice commands), and Optimus Prime transforms. It’s pretty neat, and you should really see this for yourself:

“Introducing an industry first Auto-Converting, Interactive, Programmable, Voice Activated, Mobile Controlled – Optimus Prime Robot. In collaboration with Hasbro – Robosen brings your favorite TRANSFORMERS hero, Optimus Prime, to life with a fully immersive experience through voice activated actions, mobile app controls, and endless hours of creative and fun ways to program Optimus Prime to walk, punch, blast, drive, and convert at the swipe of your finger, or command of your voice! The world has never seen an easier way to convert, and roll out!”

The robot stands at 19″ tall when in robot mode, and there are built-in speakers and microphones to add to the realism (with robot noises and multiple voices, too). Hasbro says that over 5,000 components are included in the set, along with 60 microchips and 27 servo motors. Besides controlling the robot via a mobile app, you can also use voice commands to control Prime—which should be a tonne of fun (the robot can walk, transform, and basically execute a bunch of commands).

“With 25 voice activated commands, including “Roll Out”, “Convert” and “Attack!”, Optimus Prime comes to life like never before seen in an impressive and immersive one of a kind experience! Easily convert between truck and robot mode with the sound of your voice, or click on your screen.”

And if you’re planning to travel with your new best friend, Hasbro is also bundling in a protective foam travel case with all pre-order purchases. So, what do you think? Are there any Transformers fans here? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below. To find out more, click here.
