A total of 1,033,643 people in Sarawak have already registered for the COVID-19 vaccine which covers 50% of its targetted population. The update was revealed by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian via his Facebook post.

He added that 615,208 of the registrations came through the Resident Office, while the remaining 418,435 were registered via MySejahtera. Sarawak aims to register a total of 2 million people which is equivalent to 70% of the state’s population to achieve herd immunity. About 30% of the population are youths aged below 18-years old. As reported earlier, the state aims to vaccinate 70% of its population by August, ahead of the federal government’s national immunisation plan which is scheduled to end by February 2022.

According to Dr Sim, the state wishes to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible not just to decrease its daily cases, but also to prevent potential COVID-19 mutation into variants. Sarawak still continues to record over 150 new cases daily in the past few days.

On a national level, 5.4 million people have already registered for the vaccine as of 12am on 14th March 2021 according to the special committee for ensuring access to COVID-19 vaccine supply (JKJAV). Selangor has recorded the most registrations with almost 1.6 million (33.05%). The state with the lowest response is currently Sabah with 236,398 individuals registered which is equivalent to 8.1% of its targeted population.

As of yesterday, 292,104 individuals from Phase 1 frontliners have already received their first dose of the vaccine. Phase 2 which covers senior citizens, individuals with chronic diseases and people with disability will start in April 2021.

If you haven’t register, you can sign up via MySejahtera (Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Huawei App Gallery). Alternatively, you can also register via VaksinCovid.gov.my or call in at 1-800-888-828.
