Razer’s new Thunderbolt 4 dock comes with tonnes of ports and Chroma RGB lighting

When it comes to rigs, many gamers will tell you that the aesthetic can be just as important as the power under the hood—-because what gaming rig is complete without flashing, synchronised RGB lighting? With that in mind, Razer has just launched its first ever external dock: the Razer Thunderbolt 4 Dock Chroma. It works with both Macs and Windows PCs, and of course, it comes with the signature Razer Chroma RGB under glow.

Meanwhile, the company has also announced the Razer Laptop Stand Chroma V2—to complete the look. Sound good? Here’s what you need to know.

Razer Thunderbolt 4 Dock Chroma

As per its name, Razer’s new dock comes with four USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, which support USB4 devices. Of course, Thunderbolt 3 and USB3 devices are also compatible. Meanwhile, you also get three USB-A 3.1 Gen 2 ports for legacy devices and a UHS-II SD card reader for fast file transfers. There’s also a Gigabit Ethernet port—which will be particularly handy for gamers and users who need the best possible connectivity.

Moving around the matte black, anodised aluminium dock, there’s also a 3.5mm combo audio jack for your headset, along with a single USB-C port for Power-Delivery at up to 90W charging for your laptop/PC. If you connect external monitors via Razer’s dock, you’ll be able to simultaneously push video to two 4K displays at a 60Hz refresh rate—or, you can connect to a single 8K display at 30Hz.

Putting aside all of the technicalities, Razer’s Chroma dock has an understated, minimalist design. The company says that it is designed to be the “centrepiece” of your desktop setup, and like many of the company’s products, the Chroma RGB lighting that runs along the bottom of the dock can be set to match any of the 16.8 million colours in Razer’s Synapse 3. However, do note that Razer Synapse 3 isn’t compatible with MacOS devices.

The Razer Thunderbolt 4 Dock Chroma isn’t available in Malaysia just yet, unfortunately. The Razer Malaysia online store lists the dock in its catalogue, but it’s still unavailable as of now. In the U.S., the Razer Thunderbolt 4 Dock Chroma is available for pre-order now at USD 329.99 (~RM1,343).

Razer Laptop Stand Chroma V2

If you’re planning to use the dock with a laptop, Razer has also announced the second iteration of its laptop stand. The Razer Laptop Stand Chroma V2 has a similarly minimalist matte black aluminium look, and of course, there is customisable RGB lighting along the bottom of the stand (which you can customise with Razer Synapse 3).

It isn’t a “dumb” stand, with ports including two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a single USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port, and a USB-C port for pass-through Power-Delivery charging. The latter supports up to 80W charging with a 100W charger, although you should note that this port does not support data or video output. Plus, you get a HDMI 2.0 port on the stand.

These are the supported models, according to Razer:

  • Razer Blade Stealth 13
  • Razer Book 13
  • Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model
  • Razer Blade 15 Base Model
  • Razer Blade Pro 17

Like the Thunderbolt 4 Dock, the Razer Laptop Stand Chroma V2 is not available in Malaysia just yet. In the U.S., pre-orders are now available at USD 149.99 (~RM610) for two weeks, which should give you an idea on how much the laptop stand will cost in other markets around the world.
