If you haven’t seen them in person, the Sony PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X are some of the largest consoles around (particularly the former)—which might bring up a challenge or two for users looking to slot in their new consoles into tight, organised spaces. Basically, if you were thinking of simply placing your brand new PS5 into the slot previously occupied by your PS4… it might not fit.
But if you’re a fan of Ikea‘s brand of affordable and minimalist furniture, the Swedish company has been displaying cardboard versions of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X as a way for customers to work out if their next-gen consoles will fit into one of Ikea’s TV cabinets. The cardboard cutouts are presumably made to scale, although it doesn’t look like Ikea actually calls them models of the PS5 or Xbox One Series X—probably due to legal constraints, to be fair.
The cardboard models were first spotted by Reddit user u/TomaccoTastesLikeGma, although it isn’t clear what country/region this Ikea is located in.
I gotta say, I love how the Swedish furniture-makers take aim at Sony for the size of the PlayStation 5. Describing it as a “new, meme-ishly oversized, game console”, the cardboard model bears an undeniable resemblance to Sony’s console, although it isn’t clear if this is the Digital Version, or the variant that comes with a Ultra HD Blu-ray drive. Do note that dimensions differ between both versions.
Laughs aside, the cardboard boxes should come in handy for new PS5/Xbox Series X owners out there. I personally have never seen anyone bring their console to a furniture store just to see if it would fit well, but I’m sure there are a number of people who have done it—or are planning to do it with the PS5/Xbox One Series X.
The PlayStation 5 is now available in Malaysia, with official pricing as follows:
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – RM1,869
PlayStation 5 (with Ultra HD Blu-ray drive) – RM2,299.
As for the Xbox One Series X, it is not available in Malaysia—not officially, that is.
