Before the Samsung Galaxy S21 is unveiled, Samsung will be introducing its new Exynos mobile processor which will power its next generation flagship devices. According to their teaser video titled “Exynos is back”, the new chip will be introduced on the 12th of January 2021.

Samsung’s current Exynos 990 processor that’s found on the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 has received a lot of backlash due to its lower performance when compared against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865/865+ processors. The Galaxy Note 20 series that are sold in the US, China, Korea and Japan are running on a Snapdragon 865+ while for the rest of the world including Malaysia are powered by the Exynos 990.

For 2021, the Exynos 2100 is expected to perform just as good if not better than Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chip. The new Exynos is expected to be manufactured based on a 5nm process and it will use ARM’s Cortex-X1 core.

According to serial leakster Ice Universe, the new Exynos chip is expected to score over 4,000 points on Geekbench’s Multi-Core test. Qualcomm states that its Snapdragon 888 chip can do 1,139 for single-core and 3,810 for multi-score. However, the latest Apple A14 Bionic chip on the iPhone 12 appears to be the better performer scoring over 1,600 points for single-core and 4,187 points for multi-core.

A couple of days ago, Samsung released an “Up“-inspired animated video with a message to its fans. According to Samsung, they have renewed confidence in their Exynos team and have refocused its efforts to meet its fans’ expectations by developing a whole new mobile processor.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series has been leaked extensively and the launch is expected to take place as early as 14th January 2021. We expect pre-orders to be available in Malaysia sometime next month and it is likely that Samsung Malaysia will offer the Exynos version. For those looking for a flagship Samsung with a Snapdragon processor, the most affordable option is the Galaxy S20 FE 5G that retails for RM3,399.
