Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: Samsung’s official case reportedly causes screen burn-in

The Galaxy Note 20 series are some of the best Android smartphones that you can buy today, undoubtedly. The range-topping Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, of course, is the best of the lot (for most people), and has predictably generated a lot of interest since its recent launch.

However, Samsung might have a problem to deal with. As first reported by Android Police, several Galaxy Note 20 Ultra owners have reportedly complained of screen burn-in when using Samsung’s official S-View Flip Cover.

In a post on Reddit, a user explained that using the S-View case causes “rapid burn-in”, while pointing to similar complaints on the Samsung U.S. forums. Have a look at an example:

The phone in the photo above was only 20 days old, with the user reporting that the screen burn-in appears to run parallel to the window on the S-View Flip Cover. A supposed fix is to use apps designed to resolve the issue, although this hasn’t been confirmed.

At the moment, Samsung has yet to issue an official statement as to the cause of the issue. OLED displays have historically been prone to screen burn-ins, although there are usually safeguards to prevent static images from remaining on a screen for too long a time (like OLED TVs).

An educated guess would be that a bug is causing the display—part of it—to stay on, where the S-View Flip Cover displays quick access shortcuts and information. If that is the case, perhaps an upcoming update from Samsung might fix the issue.

Galaxy Note 20 Ultra users, have you experienced something similar? We’d love to hear your thoughts.
