COVID-19: 691 new cases today, 397 cases reported in Kedah

Malaysia has reported 691 new COVID-19 cases today which is a new record high. This brings the total number of infections to 13,504.

There are 4 new deaths today which consists of 3 individuals in Sabah and 1 in Pulau Pinang. One of today’s fatalities is a one-year old girl in Semporna. The COVID-19 death toll in Malaysia is now 141.

The Ministry of Health has reported 87 new recoveries and a total of 10,427 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 77.22% while the mortality rate is 1.04%.

There are 2,936 active COVID-19 cases remaining which are currently receiving treatment. 31 patients are in ICU while 8 require respiratory support.

Out of the 691 new cases, 3 are imported while 688 are transmitted locally. The imported cases include a Malaysian that have returned from India and two foreigners that have arrived from Egypt and the Philippines. In terms of local cases, Kedah has the most cases with 397, followed by Sabah with 219 new cases and Selangor with 38 new cases.

According to the Ministry, 394 cases in Kedah are from the Tembok cluster which are isolated from the public. Meanwhile, the 219 cases in Sabah are from the red zones which are currently placed under CMCO.

The Ministry of Health has identified two new clusters in the country. This includes Ramai-ramai cluster in Sabah which now has 20 positive cases and Batu cluster in Perak which has 7 positive cases in total. Based on today’s report, there are a total of 33 new COVID-19 cases that involved individuals that have a recent travel history to Sabah. This include 17 cases in Selangor, 7 in Negeri Sembilan, 3 in Johor, 1 case each in Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Pulau Pinang, Terengganu and Labuan.
