After reporting 62 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, Malaysia has recorded another spike with 100 new cases today. This brings the total number of infections to 9,559. Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported and the death toll remains at 128.
The Ministry of Health has reported 12 new recoveries and a total of 9,136 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 95.57% while the mortality rate is 1.34%.
The number of active cases remaining has jump to 295 which are currently receiving treatment. 7 patients are in ICU and 4 require respiratory support.
Out of the 100 cases reported today, 15 are imported while 85 are transmitted locally. The 15 imported cases consist of 2 Malaysians and 13 foreigners. This includes 11 individuals arriving from India, 2 from Indonesia, 1 from the Philippines and 1 from Pakistan.
In terms of local cases, 62 are from the Benteng LD cluster followed by 22 cases from the recently identified Sungai cluster in Kedah and 1 case in Perlis which is also from the Sungai cluster.
The Benteng cluster now has a total of 128 positive cases. According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 2,010 individuals have been screened and 1,325 individuals are still waiting for their results.
For the Sungai cluster, there are now 26 positive cases. A total of 479 individuals have been screened and 422 are awaiting results.
According to Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the Benteng cluster at Lahad Datu and Tawau are under control as they are isolated from the public. The cluster is similar to the immigration detention depot clusters that were reported earlier. Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismal Sabri Yaakob once mentioned that the government may reimpose the MCO when the number of new daily COVID-19 cases increase to triple digits.
Dr Noor Hisham has also advised the public to avoid all forms of physical contact during meetings which now includes fist bumps.
