Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2: This video review reveals almost everything you need to know

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the successor to the current Galaxy Fold. We got a glimpse of it during the recent Unpacked event but Samsung will only announce the full details at a separate event that’s happening on the 1st of September.

If you can’t wait, a Galaxy Z Fold 2 video review has already surfaced online and it pretty much reveals everything you need to know about the latest foldable flagship smartphone.

As expected, the new Fold 2 runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor paired with 12GB of RAM. Interestingly, the storage is half of its predecessor with 256GB on board. It might be possible that Samsung could offer different RAM and storage configurations depending on market.

The biggest upgrade is the front cover display which is now a larger 6.2″ screen that pushes a 2326×840 pixels resolution in a 25:9 aspect ratio. This makes the new Fold 2 usable as a phone without having to unfold the device but it still pushes a 60Hz refresh rate.

On the inside, the screen is slightly larger at 7.6″ and it is now a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that offers a 120Hz refresh rate. Like the current Z Flip series, it uses Ultra-Thin-Glass which should provide better durability compared to the plastic lamination on the current Fold. Samsung is also doing away with ugly notches by using punch-holes to house the selfie cameras on the inside and on the cover.

In the imaging department, all three cameras at the rear are 12MP shooters. It has main camera that uses a 1/1.76″ Sony IMX555 sensor, a secondary Samsung S5K3L6 sensor for ultra-wide-angle and a Samsung S5K3M5 camera for telephoto.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is more versatile than before thanks to its improved hinge. The Fold 2 can stay open in various angles and it offers several modes like a convertible laptop. You can stand it up to take selfies or you can vlog using the main cameras while using the front cover display as a large view finder.

Alternatively, you can set it up in a “tent” mode where you can use it to display map navigation or to watch wide-screen videos without needing a kickstand.

The device is powered by a 4,500mAh battery which is slightly larger than the original Fold. Just like the Note 20 series, it doesn’t support 45W fast charging but it settles for a 25W power brick which is still an upgrade.

The current Galaxy Fold was released in Malaysia with a retail price tag of RM8,388 and the new version is expected to come with a higher price tag. Since Malaysia is a key market, we might not need to wait too long for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 to be released locally after the global announcement.
