Oppo to introduce an insane 125W fast charging tech this week

Since the introduction of VOOC fast charging on the Oppo Find 7, the Chinese smartphone maker has been pushing the development of fast charging over the years. The current SuperVOOC 2.0 tech that’s found on the Find X2 series pushes 65W output and they are soon introducing an even fast charging tech that claims to push an insane 125W output.

According to Oppo’s teaser on Weibo, the new 125W fast charge tech will be unveiled on the 15th of July 2020 at 3.00pm. There’s very little info about it at the moment but we reckon that it could just be a technological showcase. It would probably take some time before it is made available on a commercial phone.

Apart from Oppo, it appears that its sub-brand Realme is introducing something similar. According to Ishan Agarwal, he was tipped that Realme is announcing a new fast-charging tech this month that could be called Ultra Dart. He added that it could charge a 4,000mAh battery to 33% in just 3 minutes which is crazy quick.

Based on his tweet, it appears that the new charging tech can delivery a max output of 120W, which is pretty close to Oppo’s new upcoming charging technology. Hopefully, this time, Oppo will use a USB-C connector on the charging brick as the current 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 and DartCharge are still using a traditional USB-A head. The 65W charger is rated to fully charge the X2 Pro’s 4,260mAh battery in just 38 minutes.

At 120W or 125W, the charging output is higher than what you get on most high-end laptops that charge via USB-C. The MacBook Pro 16 for example, is shipped with a 96W USB-C charger, while the most powerful USB-C Power Delivery chargers in the market currently max out at 100W.
