COVID-19: Malaysia records 60 new cases today (24 MAy), 34 are from Immigration Detention Depots

Malaysia has recorded 60 new cases today which brings the total number of COVID-19 infections to 7,245. Fortunately, there are no new deaths recorded today and the death toll remains at 115.

There are 33 new recoveries today and a total of 5,945 patients have already recovered and discharged. The recovery rate is now 82.06% while the mortality rate is 1.59%.

COVID-19 Malaysia 24 May status

There are currently 1,185 active COVID-19 cases remaining that are still receiving treatment. 9 are in ICU while 4 require respiratory support.

Out of the 60 cases reported today, 7 are imported while 53 are local transmissions. Out of the 53 local cases, 44 are non-Malaysians. There are 28 new cases at the Immigration Detention Depot at Semenyih and there’s a new cluster at the Immigration Detention Depot at Sepang with 6 new cases. Meanwhile, there are 8 new cases at the Kg. Sungai Lui cluster.

COVID-19 Malaysia statest update

According to the ministry, a total of 507,682 individuals have been tested so far and the COVID-19 positive rate is currently 1.43% in Malaysia. The states and territories of Perak, Kelantan, Pulau Pinang, Terengganu, Kedah, Putrajaya, Perlis and Labuan have not recorded any new cases in the past 3 days.

There’s no press conference today due to Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration but the Ministry of Health has continued to provide updates via its official channels.
