Malaysia has recorded 94 new cases today, which is the highest daily number since 16th April 2020. However, Malaysia still records less than 100 daily cases for 13 days in a row.
The total number of cases is currently 5,945 and the death toll still stands at 100 with no new deaths reported today. 55 patients have recovered and discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,087, which is 68.75%.
Out of the 94 new cases, 72 are imported cases by Malaysian students returning from Indonesia. The 22 remaining cases are transmitted locally.
Among the local cases, there are 6 new cases from EMCO areas. 5 cases are from Pusat Bandar Utama and Kuala Lumpur wholesale market, and 1 case from Menara Plaza City One.
At the moment, there are 1,758 cases remaining with 40 currently in ICU an 18 requiring respiratory support.
Malaysia is currently entering the 4th phase of the movement control order which tentatively ends on 12th May 2020. Some restrictions are currently loosened which include allowing the return of students to their respective homes and two members of the family are allowed to go out to buy essential goods.
The health director-general had said yesterday that Malaysia could record single-digit daily cases by mid-May if all Malaysians continue to adhere to the MCO directive. He also shared that the Ministry of Health is receiving 50,000 antigen rapid test kits from South Korea this Friday and priority will be given to Sabah and Sarawak.
