For the first time, Apple Music is now available on Samsung’s Smart TVs

Samsung has just announced that the Apple Music app is now available on its Smart TVs, with users in over 100 countries now having access to Apple’s native music platform. This marks the first time that Apple has allowed for integration of its Apple Music app on a Smart TV platform—previously, users could only access Apple Music via the Apple TV set-top box.

This means that Apple Music subscribers can now access their Apple Music accounts directly on their Samsung Smart TVs, and play any one of over 60 million songs and music videos on the platform. The experience should be pretty similar to the Apple Music app in Apple TV set-top boxes, with customisable daily recommendations and live streams available.

According to Salek Brosky, VP of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development for Samsung:

“Our goal has always been to deliver the best entertainment experiences to consumers – and as people spend more time at home, we are more committed to that mission than ever.”

This isn’t the first time that Samsung and Apple—fierce rivals in the mobile scene—have collaborated on an integrated solution. In 2019, Samsung became the first TV brand to feature support for the Apple TV app, with Brodsky saying that the partnership has been “instrumental” in offering a wide range of entertainment.

Previously, Apple Music subscribers who wanted to play music on a Samsung Smart TV (without an Apple TV set-top box) would have had to stream the content over AirPlay 2. The new announcement from Samsung means that users can stream Apple Music from their Samsung Smart TVs without the use of an iPhone or Apple device.

To install the Apple Music app on your Samsung Smart TV, you’ll need to head over to the Samsung Smart TV App Store to download the app. Once completed, enter your existing Apple ID details into the app. If you don’t have an account with Apple Music,  you can create a new account with a 3 month trial period for free.

However, support for the Apple Music app is only available on Samsung Smart TVs that were released from 2018 to 2020.
