COVID-19: New daily cases dip below 40 in Malaysia, 60.7% have recovered

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 — Malaysia has registered only 36 new Covid-19 positive cases today, making it the lowest daily number to date, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced today.

The last time the number of new cases were around this range was on March 13 and 14 with 39 and 41 cases, just days before the movement control order (MCO) was first announced.

There were also zero new deaths reported today. The last time this happened was roughly a month ago at March 19.

However, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reminded the public to not be lackadaisical over the latest announcement, and to still observe the needful hygiene routine as well as to abide by the laws.

“We still have a remainder to our fight and it certainly has not ended. Continue your efforts in helping the government break the Covid-19 infection chain by abiding by the MCO, practise optimum self-hygiene at all times, regularly wash your hands with water and soap and practise social distancing of at least one-metre from others,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

He attributed the lower numbers to the “proactive and aggressive” actions of MOH to detect cases, especially in the past two weeks.

However, he explained that the number of cases may spike again in the coming two weeks, given that tracing activities are still being actively conducted, especially upon Malaysians who returned from overseas, as well as areas under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

In addition to that, there were 98 recoveries today, making the total recoveries at 3,295 cases, or 60.74 per cent of total cases.

As of noon today, Malaysia has 5,425 positive Covid-19 cases, with 2,041 of them still active cases.

45 cases are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, while 28 of them needed ventilators. — Malay Mail
