Oppo has announced the Ace 2 and it’s the company’s first smartphone to finally support wireless charging. Similar to the Oppo Find X2 series, this is a 5G flagship and it also runs on a Snapdragon 865 processor.
Unlike its predecessor, the Ace 2 drops its “Reno” monicker and it now stands as a separate lineup. Upfront, it gets a 6.55″ OLED display which is smaller than the Find X2. It also settles for a lower Full HD+ resolution (2400×1080 pixels) and a lower 90Hz refresh rate. The screen comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor and a single punch-hole that houses a 16MP f/2.4 selfie camera.
Powering the Ace 2 is Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 processor and it can be configured with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage which isn’t expandable. However, according to the spec-sheet, the 8GB RAM version uses LPDDR4 RAM.
In the camera department, the Ace 2 comes with a Mate 30-inspired quad-camera bump. It has a familiar 48MP f/1.7 main camera that uses Sony’s IMX586 sensor and an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle shooter. In addition, the device also gets two 2MP f/2.4 cameras for portrait effects.
Powering the device is a modest 4,000mAh battery and it supports 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging via USB-C. On top of that, the device also supports 40W AirVOOC fast wireless charging that is rated to push a full charge in just 56 minutes. Oppo also claims that a quick 5-minute charge is enough to push 1 hour of usage. As shown previously, the wireless charging pad looks rather big and it appears to come with a sizable fan to keep things cool.
The Ace 2 is Oppo’s first device to support wireless charging and interestingly, its sister brand OnePlus is also introducing its next flagship today with 30W wireless charging.
Oppo isn’t the only brand with a 40W wireless charging. Huawei has recently introduced a 40W wireless SuperCharge which is only supported on its top-of-the-line P40 Pro+. As a comparison, Huawei’s 40W wireless charging solution is rated to push 65% charge in 30 minutes.
In addition, the Ace 2 also supports reverse wireless charging at 10W. Similar to the Find X2, the device also gets stereo speakers but it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. Out of the box, it runs on Android 10 with ColorOS 7.1 skin on top.
In China, the Ace 2 is officially priced as follows:
8GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY 3,999 (about RM2,455)
8GB RAM + 256GB storage – CNY 4,399 (about RM2,700)
12GB RAM + 256GB storage – CNY 4,599 (about RM2,823)
