OnePlus 8: At first glance, it already looks better than the OP7T

The new OnePlus 8 series is slated to be launched in the next few weeks, and leaks have already surfaced online which indicate the design, as well as certain features of the flagship series. We’ve already seen images of Robert Downey Jr. holding what looks a lot like the Pro variant in the series, and now, “official” renders of the OnePlus 8 have arrived.

Thanks to Roland Quandt on WinFuture, we now have a clear look at what the more affordable OnePlus 8 will look like—and it already looks better than its predecessor, the OP7T. The circular rear camera module has now been replaced by a more conventional vertical camera layout, while OnePlus has replaced the notch with a single hole-punch cutout, in keeping with the times.

Looking closely at the renders, it also looks like it’s something of a traditional rear camera setup of sorts; Quandt predicts that we’ll see a 48MP f/1.8 main camera, along with a 16MP wide-angle shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. Housed in the new cutout is a 16MP front-facer for selfies.

We’re also expecting to see the latest Snapdragon 865 powering the device, along with support for 5G connectivity via Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X55 modem. Just like the OnePlus 7T series, there will be 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS storage, along with memory configurations of up to 12GB of memory and 256GB of storage.

OnePlus’ super-fast Warp Charge will return, with 30W charging expected alongside a decently-sized 4,300mAh battery to sustain the device. 3 colour variants will be available based on the images: black, green, and a “glow” option that looks like a rainbow-coloured choice.

Again, OnePlus will feature its Fluid AMOLED screens in the new series, with a 6.55″ display pushing a FHD+ resolution—at a 90Hz refresh rate, of course. Unlocking the phone can be done via an in-display fingerprint scanner, while another small detail we noticed is a speaker grill in the earpiece of the phone, which means stereo speakers (yay!).

The OnePlus 8 is set to be officially announced on the 15th of April, although no other official information is available at the moment. In light of the current coronavirus situation, the flagship series will likely be launched via live stream, just like many phone launches (and global events) nowadays.

What do you think? Would you get the rainbow-coloured OnePlus 8?
