[UPDATED] Huawei: Mate Xs only available via delivery on 20 March

[ UPDATE 10/03/2020 16:10 ]: Huawei has responded that the pickup option will not be available during the movement control order. Only home delivery is available. Pickup will only be available once the movement control order has been lifted.

=====

The Mate XS is an exciting device, I won’t deny it. But for some reason, Huawei appears to have genuinely tough luck each time they try to launch a foldable phone. Remember the Mate X (never globally launched), and the timing of Huawei’s now infamous issues with the U.S. Commerce Department? Now, the Huawei Mate XS is set for its first day of Malaysian sales—smack in the middle of a time of crisis for the nation.

The movement control order means that all businesses are to close; the exceptions to this are essential services providers. However, Huawei Malaysia are pressing forward with their plans for the sales launch of the Huawei Mate Xs—the first Huawei foldable to officially arrive on Malaysian shores—with a few tweaks to adapt to the movement control order.

VIP Home Delivery

In an official press release, the company says that “customers’ health and safety” is the top priority, and that they will introducing a new straight-to-home delivery option for those that shop at their online store.

Huawei Malaysia has also assured us that dispatch workers will be wearing face masks, and will also sanitise the packages before completing deliveries. Contact details will be provided for after-sales services.

Huawei has shared with us that they will not be offering the pickup service while the movement control order is in action. This means that you’ll have to wait till the 1st of April (tentatively) at least for the offline pickup option.

In any case, the Huawei Mate Xs is available for RM11,111 on their official store in a single variant: 8GB of RAM mated to 512GB of storage—you also get a pair of Huawei’s Freebuds 3 and a leather case for the Mate Xs as free gifts. What’s more valuable here is the three-month warranty that Huawei offers for the Mate Xs: a one-time screen replacement offer (subject to eligibility requirements being met).

Editor’s note: This article and its title was amended after we received additional information from Huawei Malaysia.
