Its new Proton X70 maintains the title of the most popular SUV in Malaysia for the second consecutive month with 1,973 units sold. At the moment, the updated 2020 SUV that comes with a 7-speed DCT has received over 7,000 orders.
The company also shared that the Exora MPV is still the leader in the C-segment MPV market, while the Saga and Iriz have also performed well. The Proton Saga remains the best seller with 3,934 units sold in February and the demand is said to be outstripping supply.
According to Proton CEO Dr. Li Chunrong, February was a strong sales month for Proton despite a lower Total Industry Volume (TIV) compared to January. He added that the current market share for Proton is at its highest point in 77 months. With strong booking numbers for the locally-assembled Proton X70 2020, Dr. Li shared that the company feels encouraged about its plans for the rest of the year.
The Proton X70 2020 is priced from RM94,800 and the range-topping model with a sunroof is going for RM122,800. Despite the slight price reduction, the new CKD model offers more 15Nm more torque and claims to offer 13% better fuel efficiency than the CBU model. On top of that, Proton has also added a power tailgate for the X70 Executive trim and above. If you’re interested, you can book the SUV online for RM99 through their website.
For those who are looking for something more affordable, Proton is expected to introduce the X50 SUV that’s based on the Geely Binyue aka Geely CoolRay later this year.
