This iPhone app combines Huawei’s Dual-View and Nokia’s Bothie mode

Smartphone these days come with three or more cameras but most native camera apps only allow you to record from one camera. Now there’s a new app called DoubleTake by Filmic which allows you to record two videos simultaneously.

The DoubleTake app is super easy to use and it is available for free on the AppStore. If you have the iPhone 11 Pro or the iPhone 11 Pro Max, you will get to access all four cameras – ultra-wide, wide, telephoto and selfie camera. However, you can only select two cameras of your choice. It could be selfie + wide, ultra-wide + telephoto, or selfie + ultra-wide.

In terms of recording modes, there’s discreet, PiP and split-screen mode. With discreet, it will save two separate clips that are recorded at the same time. PiP is basically picture in picture, which you can drag the secondary view to any corner even while recording. Split-screen is a mode which is similar to Nokia’s Bothie or Huawei P30 Pro’s dual-view video mode.

From our experience, the app is pretty good but it does feel sluggish when you switch between recording modes. Unfortunately, you can’t tweak the video format settings and it only records in 1080p which is still pretty decent. You can also choose between 24fps, 25fps and 30fps.

The app has a histogram and what’s impressive is that you can control the focus and exposure for each camera. But this will only work with the iPhone’s wide and telephoto cameras.

According to The Verge, Filmic DoubleTake is available for iOS 13 devices and the two camera recording feature is only supported for the iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. Have you tried DoubleTake? Do let us know how’s your experience so far.
