The quad-camera Realme 5i is a cheaper Realme 5

The Realme 5i has just been revealed in Vietnam and this is the company’s first smartphone for 2020. Essentially, this is the most affordable variant under the Realme 5 series and it is expected to come to Malaysia very soon.

At first glance, it looks identical to the current Realme 5 except that it gets a more toned-down appearance. The back gets a polished “back mirror housing” that comes in either green or blue. Upfront, it still gets a 6.5″ HD+ IPS display and it runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor.

In Vietnam, the device can be configured with either 3GB RAM + 32GB storage or 4GB RAM + 64GB of storage. If you need more storage, it comes with a dedicated microSD card slot which you can use simultaneously with two SIM cards.

For taking pictures, the quad-camera setup at the back remains unchanged. It has a 12MP f/1.8 main shooter that’s capable of recording 4K videos, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and two 2MP shooters for macro and portrait effects. The biggest downgrade is the selfie camera which now settles for an 8MP front camera instead of a 13MP unit.

Powering the device is a huge 5,000mAh battery and it supports 10W charging via a microUSB port. The Realme 5i also retains a 3.5mm headphone jack.

In Vietnam, the device is going for VND 3,690,000 (About RM652) but we reckon it should be priced more affordably when it gets here. The upgraded Realme 5s that comes with a 48MP main camera, 4GB RAM and 128GB of storage is currently going for RM799. The Realme 5i has already passed our local SIRIM certification and we think it should be hitting the shelves pretty soon.
