Galaxy Note 10 & S10 users get 2020 Android update before Google Pixel

Samsung has recently been pushing the January 2020 Android security patch to some of its smartphones, including their mid-range A-series smartphones and the Galaxy Tab S5e tablet. Now, reports say that the Korean company is rolling out the latest security update to its two current flagship smartphones: the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy S10 smartphones.

The patch is being rolled out to Note 10 and Note 10+ users in Germany first, although the update should start to appear for users in other regions shortly. Meanwhile, S10 users in Switzerland have reportedly received the update—we’ve checked on a Malaysian Galaxy S10+ unit, and unfortunately the patch hasn’t appeared yet.

There aren’t any major updates or new features, but it’s still pretty notable that Samsung has beaten Google to the punch with the timeliness of their security updates. Pixel users should also see the update very soon, but Samsung has already pushed the update to multiple devices—tablets, even.

Wasn’t one of the Pixel’s selling points that users would be the first to get updates, even minor ones?

This is the first update for the Note 10 and Note 10+ ever since the last major update that upgraded the devices to Android 10. Timely security patches, of course, is a welcome move—and it’s also impressive that Samsung has been pushing security patches to their mid-range and older devices with such punctuality. That’s including the A10, A20, A30, and A50.

To check if you’ve received the update on your Galaxy device, head over to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
