If you’re driving outstation, PLUS has announced that all reload lanes at entry toll plazas on the North-South Expressway will be closed starting today, 24th December 2019 until 2nd January 2020. This means you can’t top up your physical Touch ‘n Go card at both entry and exit toll booths, and this is aimed at reducing traffic congestion during the holiday period.
PLUS strongly recommends road users to plan their journey and to ensure that their Touch ‘n Go cards are reloaded earlier and have sufficient balance at all times. Traffic is expected to increase by 18% from 1.7 million vehicles during normal working days to 2 million during the holiday season. They added that traffic flow will be disrupted if highway customers don’t have sufficient balance on their TNG cards and are unable to carry out their toll transactions.
PLUS also wants to remind users that there are no Touch ‘n Go card top-up services at the exit lane at its toll plazas and this initiative had started since Q3 2019. The practice of closing reload lanes at entry points has been standard practice during busy festive seasons such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Christmas.
Users can top up their cards at over 11,000 reload centres throughout the country. If you don’t want to pay for the reload charge, you can locate your nearest zero-fee reload zone with Waze or you can find the list of zero-free reload locations here.
Do note that the Touch ‘n Go PayDirect feature is not supported on PLUS highway just yet. The feature which allows you to pay using your Touch ‘n Go eWallet when you use the physical card will be introduced on PLUS expressways sometime in the middle of 2020. At the moment, they only accept two modes of payment – Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG.
Touch ‘n Go RFID will be supported on PLUS beginning 1st January starting with 10 open-system toll booths. The remaining 83 closed-system toll booths will support RFID in April 2020. When enabled on PLUS, users will also get the option to pay for RFID transactions via credit or debit card as well as their bank accounts.
