The Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro will be announced in China at the end of this month. We know that the top-spec model will feature a quad-camera setup and the main shooter will be using a high-resolution 64MP camera from Samsung.
For the upcoming device, Redmi will be using the latest processor from MediaTek that promises incredible gaming experience.
As revealed on Redmi’s Weibo account, the latest Redmi devices will be running on a MediaTek Helio G90T processor instead of a Qualcomm Snapdragon unit. It is a 12nm FFC based processor that features 2x Cortex A76 cores and 6x Cortex A55 cores. The new chip gets an ARM Mali G76 GPU and it can support up to 10GB of LPDDR4x RAM.
It isn’t clear if this will be the same arrangement for global units. In the past, the Redmi Note 3 in China was using a MediaTek X10 processor, while global units were running on a Snapdragon 650 unit. However, it seems certain that this processor will be coming to a Xiaomi smartphone for the Indian market based on a tweet by Xiaomi India’s CEO below:
In terms of performance, the MediaTek Helio G90T chip claims to record more than 220,000 points on Antutu benchmarks. That’s higher than the Mi 9T which is powered by a Snapdragon 730. The Redmi Note 8 series will be announced on the 29th August 2019.
