Please don’t hurt yourself doing the Bird Box Challenge!

Social media challenges are always intended as a joke but most of the time, one-upping each other online can be taken to the extreme. The latest one based on the hit Netflix movie Bird Box may have dire consequences for fans.

The “Bird Box Challenge” is having people traversing a seemingly normal setting, like a kitchen or living room but blindfolded and that has gotten a few people hurt.

The challenge comes quickly after the Bird Box made its debut on Netflix about a month ago. The story follows, Sandra Bullock and other characters who have to blindfold themselves to avoid seeing monsters that take the form of people’s worst fears, causing them to commit suicide.

Shortly after the debut of the movie, fans started posting videos of themselves attempting the “Bird Box Challenge” on social media.

And as you can see many of the attempts of the silly Bird Box challenge either end up being unsuccessful or with people hurting themselves.

Naturally, this has gotten Netflix worried to a point where the company felt that it needed to issue a reminder for people not to get carried away with the stunt. “PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE,” Netflix exclaimed on Twitter yesterday.

Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.

— Netflix US (@netflix) January 2, 2019

Whether the tweet was a clever move by Netflix to ride the wave of conversations created by fans or motivated by genuine concern or perhaps both, if you want to try the Bird Box Challenge for yourself, please just don’t get yourself hurt.
