Mi Pad 4: Xiaomi’s new sub-RM1,000 tablet now comes with 4G LTE

Despite the declining tablet market, Xiaomi is still releasing a new compact tablet for 2018. Apart from having newer hardware, the new Mi Pad 4 gets support for 4G LTE as well as face unlock.

The Mi Pad 4 now comes with an 8.0″ 16:10 display that pushes a Full HD resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. For its 4th gen tablet, it now uses a 2.2GHz 14nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor that comes with either 3GB or 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM. Storage comes in either 32GB or 64GB capacity which isn’t expandable.

For imaging, it gets a 13MP f/2.0 rear camera that supports HDR and 1080p video, while the front comes with a 5MP selfie camera. While it doesn’t come with a fingerprint sensor, there’s an AI-assisted facial recognition feature using the front camera.

In terms of connectivity, it supports 802.11ac 5GHz WiFi with 2×2 WiFi MIMO Support as well as Bluetooth 5.0. To stay connected on the go, the Mi Pad 4 also comes with a 4G LTE version that supports both TDD-LTE and FDD-LTE bands. The LTE version also comes with support for GPS.

Powering this 7.9mm thin tablet is a 6,000mAh battery that charges via USB-C but it’s bundled with a standard 5V 2A power adapter. The device comes in either gold or black. Below is the China pricing for the Mi Pad 4::

3GB RAM + 32GB storage WiFi – 1,099 CNY (about RM675)
4GB RAM + 64GB storage WiFi – 1,399 CNY (about RM860)
4GB RAM + 64GB storage LTE – 1,499 CNY (about RM921)

It isn’t clear if Xiaomi would sell this 4th gen Mi Pad outside of China. For the Malaysian market, we only got the 1st gen Mi Pad that’s powered by an Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset.
