The Red Magic gaming smartphone with RGB strip is now available in Malaysia

Apart from the ASUS ROG phone, Nubia also has its own gaming smartphone that features RGB lighting at the back. This is the Red Magic and it’s now on sale in Malaysia.

The folks at DirectD are offering the Red Magic at RM2,499 and this an import set with a 1-year in-house warranty. Stocks are available at the moment but they are only selling the Black version.

Similar to the Razer Phone and Black Shark, the Red Magic is a gaming centric device that packs top-rated specs. Upfront it has a 5.99″ Full HD+ display that pushes 2160×1080 pixels in an 18:9 aspect ratio. Underneath its aluminium body is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 2.45GHz with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and it has 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. At the sides, the Red Magic has a customisable game button that you can use to boost performance and disable notification.

While the other smartphones come with dual-cameras, the Red Magic settles for a single 24MP f/1.7 main camera at the rear and a front-facing 8MP f/2.0 selfie shooter. There’s a fingerprint sensor at the rear but for a gaming device, it’s strange that the speaker is placed at the rear. Another interesting addition at the back is an RGB LED strip which can be customised with 4 different lighting effects.

Out of the box, it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and it gets a 3,800mAh battery that charges via USB-C. It also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a feature that’s lacking on both Razer Phone and Black Shark. If you’re interested, you can check out the Red Magic at DirectD.
