UPDATE: The vivo X21 is now official in Malaysia. It’s priced at RM2,299.

Want a “FullView” smartphone that lets you lock naturally with your finger? The vivo X21 is coming to Malaysia very soon and it’s vivo’s new top of the line device that comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

According to vivo Malaysia, the X21 will launch in Malaysia next week on 5 June 2018. Like most Android phones these days, the X21 features a 6.28″ Full HD+ display that uses a Super AMOLED Panel in a 19:9 aspect ratio. Over at the back, it uses a 3D Glass design for a more upmarket feel.

Powering the X21 is a Snapdragon 660 processor that’s mated to 6GB of RAM. Onboard it gets 128GB of storage which is expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card.

The rear gets a dual camera setup comprising a 12MP f/1.8 dual-pixel main camera and a secondary 5MP f/2.4 shooter. Meanwhile, the front also gets a 12MP f/2.0 selfie camera that’s enhanced with AI Beautification features.

One of the key highlights of the X21 is its under-display fingerprint sensor. vivo had experimented with this fingerprint sensor technology for the past year and they were the first to commercialise it on the X20 Plus UD. It won’t be as fast as conventional fingerprint sensor but it does give you the convenience of a front-facing fingerprint sensor while having a narrower chin.

If your fingertips are wet or if you’re wearing gloves, the vivo X21 also supports Face Unlock. The front camera is equipped with an infrared light which makes unlocking in the dark possible. Unlike the iPhone X, all you’ll need to unlock is to lift up the phone to your face without the need to swipe.

Powering the device is a 3,200mAh battery and it still charges via microUSB. Out of the box, it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with FunTouch 4.0 skin on top.

In China, the vivo X21 is priced at 3,598CNY (about RM2,255). This looks like a direct competitor to OPPO’s R15 Pro that’s priced at RM2,399 in Malaysia. Stay tuned to us for official pricing and availability details.
