YouTube Incognito

YouTube has become a staple for many of us as a source of entertainment. From the latest music to all your games and gadgets review you can find most of them on YouTube. However, YouTube is a platform that generates their money through selling ads and with that in mind, they are not shy to push relevant content and ads to your feed for better targeting purpose.

For instance, I was looking into the latest God of War review on YouTube, and later that evening all my recommended feed are swarmed with random videos regarding the game. This is how hard YouTube pushes content into your feed. However, there are ways to overcome it.

A recent source tells that YouTube is trying to implement an ‘incognito’ mode into the app. This feature was visible in some of the Android apps only, so we can assume that they are still conducting test runs on their end. If you own an Android phone you could check to see if this feature is already available for you.

If the incognito mode is available you should be seeing an option just like the photo below. The incognito mode will deactivate the view tracking feature and all your activity throughout that session won’t be recorded by YouTube for targeting purpose later on.

If you’re on Android and you don’t have this feature available on your app, or you’re running on an iOS platform, there’s another option to set your YouTube app into ‘incognito’ mode.

All you need to do is tap on the settings configuration on the app. There you’ll find 2 options to toggle, “Pause watch history” and “Pause search history”. Enabling both of this will stop YouTube from tracking your activity. You can also clear your search and watch history on the same page as well.

If you watch YouTube frequently through your web browser, you can still do that same thing. Just click on the 3 lines beside the YouTube logo on the top left of the page, and you’ll see a bar that will pop out. Select on the history panel and you can manage your watch activity on the right.

We are constantly overwhelmed by the overflowing richness of content that is pushed towards us these days. This step YouTube has taken might be a good way for us to filter unnecessary content that isn’t relevant to us on a daily basis.

Do you think that having an incognito feature will make a difference in your YouTube experience? Feel free to share your thoughts with us below.
