HTC U Ultra Malaysia

The HTC U Ultra had recently gotten a significant price cut from RM2,599 to RM1,999. For those who are hoping for an even lower price, you can get one today at the price of a new mid-range smartphone.

To refresh your memory, the HTC U Ultra was first introduced in January this year and it stood out for having a secondary display at the top of the device, like LG’s V series. The extra screen can be used for app shortcuts or to display notifications without having to interrupt your main screen.

Despite being close to a year old, it is still quite a decent device with a 5.7″ Quad HD display and it runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. When we did a quick check on Lazada, it is now going from as low as RM1,599 and these are official units with 1-year warranty from HTC Malaysia.

Continuing on the specs, the U Ultra gets 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage which is expandable via microSD. It gets a 12MP f/1.8 UltraPixel 2 main camera with LaserAF, PDAF and OIS. Meanwhile, the front features a 16MP UltraPixel camera with a host of beautification features.

Like the HTC 10 and U11, it gets BoomSound HiFi Edition speakers which uses both the top earpiece and down firing speakers. There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack but HTC supplies the U Ultra with a pair of USonic USB-C based Hi-res audio headphones. Powering the device is a 3,000mAh battery which is rather small for a 5.7″ device and it also supports Quick Charge 3.0.

If you’re interested, you can get it on Lazada Malaysia. Is this a worthy purchase if you have a budget of RM1500-1700? Or would you rather top up a little and go for a Xiaomi Mi 6 or OnePlus 3T?
