Nubia Z17S: All the flagship specs without the flagship price

The nice thing about the futuristic tech you find of flagship smartphones is that there’s often a good chance that they will likely trickle down. given time, to more affordable handsets. We’ve already seen the wildly popular slim bezel screens make their way to mid-range devices and sure those do come with watered down specs but the experience is broadly similar for a sizable price cut.

But what if you’re one who doesn’t want the cut in performance. What if you want the best flagship specs you can get on a smartphone, including that nice new screen, at much lower price? Nubia‘s got you covered with their new Z17S smartphone.

Yep, this new smartphone from the ZTE sub-brand Nubia features a killer spec-sheet for a fantastic price tag. Inside, it’s not pulling any punches with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. In front, you’ve got the star of the show, a 5.73″ Full HD+ LTPS TFT display pushing a resolution of 2040×1080 pixels. This means it is actually a 17:9 aspect ratio display instead of the more conventional 18:9 used by most slim-bezeled smartphones.

Besides that, the handset also features a 3,100 mAh battery with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0 fast-charging technology. All of those specs are then wrapped up in a glass and metal body for that premium touch. There’s also a fingerprint scanner mounted at the back of the smartphone.

For imaging, the handset packs a dual-camera setup at the back. One is a 12MP Sony IMX362 shooter with an f/1.8 aperture lens while the second features a 23MP Sony IMX318 sensor with a smaller f/2.0 aperture lens. These cameras work together to give you 2X lossless zoom and even bokeh effects for your pictures. In front, there’s another dual-camera setup with two 5MP selfie shooters featuring f/2.2 aperture lenses which are also capable of portrait selfies.

Nubia’s Z17S will have support for Bluetooth 4.1 and 802.11ac WiFi. It’s also running on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box.

How much will all of this cost you? Well, you can now pre-order this smartphone from Lazada or DirectD for RM2,599. That’s pretty incredible value for what you’re getting. In fact, with the specs you get and the price it’s retailing at, this could be the biggest challenger for OnePlus’ upcoming 5T smartphone that’s due to launch at the end of this week.
