Before the next Galaxy flagship smartphone is announced next year, Samsung has just revealed its upcoming Exynos flagship processor. It was among the 36 award-winning Samsung products under the CES 2018 Innovation Awards.
Details are quite limited at the moment. However, according to the description, the Exynos 9 Series 9810 is Samsung’s latest flagship processor which will succeed their current Exynos 8895 that runs on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note8 flagships. It uses 3rd generation custom CPU cores and an upgraded GPU which isn’t specified. What’s interesting is that the Exynos 9 9810 is still based on a 10nm process and it is very likely that it would make its debut first on the upcoming Galaxy S9.
What’s interesting is that the new chip will feature a faster Cat.18 LTE model that supports the industry’s first 6CA (6 Carrier Aggregation). This would help push even faster download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps, which is similar to Huawei’s current Kirin 970 chip. It also supports 4×4 MIMO and 256QAM to achieve higher data transfer rate.
With Huawei and Apple having a neural/AI unit on its latest processors, surprisingly there’s no mention of it yet on the new Exynos 9810. There’s a possibility that Samsung could be working on something similar which would improve Bixby further. As always, we expect Samsung to release Qualcomm variants of the Galaxy S9 for selected markets including the US.
