UPDATE: IGP has confirmed that Jason Lo was arrested in Dubai but it isn’t related to drugs.

According to a news report by TV3, a CEO of a Malaysian telecommunications company was arrested at Dubai’s International Airport for possession of drugs. The man, in his 40s, was caught carrying the illegal substance in his luggage upon his arrival from Amsterdam on 18 September.

The report added that the drugs were believed to be cocaine and he was detained at the airport for two weeks for investigation before he served his sentence in prison.

There were speculation that TuneTalk CEO Jason Lo was arrested by UAE authorities but he has denied that he was detained due to drug possession. Below is his statement to TheEdgeMarkets:

Here’s the story in case you didn’t know. I landed in Dubai, at the airport my friend tries to stop a fight. Then he gets hit and I jump the guy who turns out to be an undercover cop. I go to lock up and this guy stalls his statement for weeks. It was horrible. Not as horrible as coming out and hearing rumours of being locked up for every other reason under the sun.

At the moment, we don’t know which CEO was arrested for drugs but NST expects him to hold a press conference as early as tomorrow.

UPDATE: IGP has confirmed that Jason Lo was arrested in Dubai but it is not related to drugs. He was detained to assist investigations into a fighting case and not for drug possession. The Malaysian police are still waiting for the full report from Dubai authorities.
