Acer’s affordable and slim Swift 1 laptop is now available in Malaysia

Acer Swift 1 Malaysia Launch

If you’re in a market for a slim and portable laptop but without much money to burn, Acer might have the laptop just for you. Acer’s new entry-level Swift 1 has finally arrived in Malaysia and it aims to offer ultra-portability for the masses.

At first glance, it looks heavily inspired by a MacBook Air as it gets an all-metal build with a familiar looking black border around the front display panel. As the entry-level offering, it runs on an Intel Pentium quad-core N4200 processor with 4GB of DDR3 RAM along with an integrated Intel HD 505 graphics. It boasts up to 10 hours of battery life from a single charge.

Despite being a budget device, it still gets a 13.3″ Full HD IPS display and 128GB of SSD storage. On top of that, it even gets a fingerprint sensor below its directional keys for quicker logins via Windows Hello. The Swift 1 has an overall thickness of 14.95mm and it weighs 1.3kg.

In terms of ports, the Swift 1 gets 2x USB 3.0, HDMI, USB Type-C (Gen 1) and a headphone jack on the right while the left side comes with an SD Card slot and another full-size USB port. It also supports 2×2 802.11 ac/b/g/n WiFi with MU-MIMO and Bluetooth 4.0.

The Swift 1 priced at RM2,199 runs on Windows 10 Home (64-bit) and it comes in 3 colours – Salmon Pink, Luxury Gold and Sparkly Silver. You can find it at authorised Acer dealers nationwide and it comes with a 2-year local warranty.

Acer Aspire 3 and Aspire 5

If you’re looking for something more affordable, Acer Malaysia has also introduced its Acer Aspire 3 series priced from RM1,339. It comes with either Intel Celeron N3350 processor or AMD A-Series dual-core A4 (9120) processor with 4GB of RAM and 500GB of SATA HDD. It comes either a 14″ or 15.6″ display that does 1366×768 resolution.

The 14″ Aspire 3 is 20.15mm thick and it weighs 1.8kg while the 15.6″ option is slightly thicker at 21.6mm while weighing 2.1kg. The pricing for each model are as follows:

Aspire 3 (A314-31) 14″ HD, Celeron N3350 – RM1,339
Aspire 3 (A315-31) 15.6″ HD, Celeron N3350 – RM1,439
Aspire 3 (A4) 15.6″ HD, AMD A4-9120 – RM1,499

For those requiring more power, there’s the Acer Aspire 5 that comes with a 15.6″ Full HD display. The Intel Core i5-7200U version comes with NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics while the AMD A-Series quad-core A12-9720P version comes with an AMD Radeon RX 540.

Both models come with 4GB of DDR4 RAM (upgradable to 16GB), 1TB SATA SSD and up to 7 hours of battery life. Overall, the Aspire 5 weighs 2.2kg with a thickness of 21.6mm. The Intel Core i5 Aspire 5 is priced at RM2,639 while the AMD A12-9720P is going for RM2,549. In terms of warranty, the Aspire 3 and Aspire 5 both come with a 1-year coverage.
