YotaPhone is introducing a new smartphone with two displays later this year

Remember YotaPhone? It’s a lesser known Russian brand that produces smartphones with dual-displays. We’re not talking about the tiny secondary ticker screens found on the LG V20 or HTC U Ultra but full displays at the back which is always-on while using very little power.

The last phone they introduced was almost 4 years ago with the YotaPhone 2. The specs were pretty decent with a Snapdragon 800 processor and it had a 5″ Full HD AMOLED display at the front. What’s interesting is the back where it gets a 4.7″ E-Ink display that’s also touch-sensitive.

The E-Ink display obviously isn’t as responsive as a typical colour screen but the advantage is that it can stay on for long hours with very minimal power consumption. This is useful for E-books, displaying notes or even maps for navigation.

Now it seems that YotaPhone is back again and they are about to introduce a new one that’s called the Yota3. Details of the upcoming device is rather scarce. There are no hints of its design but it is said that it will come with a mid-range Snapdragon 625 processor with 4GB of RAM.

The display will be bigger than its predecessors with a 5.5″ Full HD AMOLED display at the front while the rear gets a 5.2″ 720p E-Ink touch screen. It will also come with a 12MP main camera, 13MP front selfie shooter, a 3,200mAh battery, USB Type-C and it runs on Android Nougat out of the box.

Storage wise, the Yota3 will be made available in either 64GB of 128GB options and it would be priced at around US$350 (about RM1,495) or US$450 (about RM1,922). Probably the biggest disappointment is its availability as the Yota3 is expected to be released during fall which is around October/November.
