As the Moto G series goes upmarket, Motorola has announced its more affordable lineup with the Moto E4 and E4 Plus. Like its bigger siblings, the Moto E in its 4th generation has ditched its former all plastic finish for a more premium looking design.

Moto E4

The Moto E4 is the smallest of the two with a 5″ HD 720p display tucked underneath a 2.5D glass and it is powered by a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 425/427 processor. It comes mated with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

Despite being an entry-level device, it even comes with a fingerprint sensor upfront and has a nanocoating layer that protects it from accidental spills and splashes. For optics, it gets an 8MP f/2.2 main camera while the front gets a 5MP f/2.2 selfie shooter that also comes assisted with a front-facing flashlight.

Powering the device is a 2,800mAh removable battery that is rated to last a full day. Out of the box, it runs on the latest Android 7.1 Nougat that comes with a stock experience. Apparently, there are other Moto E4 variants that runs on a MediaTek MT6737M processor and some may come with NFC support.

Moto E4 Plus

If you’re looking for something beefier, the Moto E4 Plus comes with a larger 5.5″ HD 720p display and it is juiced up by larger 5,000mAh battery. Motorola says the battery could last up to 2 days on a single charge.

The hardware underneath is quite similar to the E4 with a Quad Core 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 427 processor that’s mated to 2GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the Moto E4 Plus comes in either 16GB or 32GB.

The rear camera is better than the E4 as it comes with a 13MP f/2.0 shooter that has a wider 78-degree lens. The front selfie camera is the same with a 5MP f/2.2 unit.

The Moto E4 Plus also gets a water-repellent coating, 2.5D glass and a fingerprint sensor. It is also expected to come with a MediaTek MT6737M variant for markets outside the US. The Moto E4 is said to be going at US$129.99 (about RM554) while the Moto E4 Plus is priced at US$179.99 (about RM767). Looking at the price range, this could compete in the same space as Nokia’s entry-level Nokia 3. Both offer stock Android experience but the Moto E4 comes with a fingerprint sensor.
