Nokia’s new phones will be getting the one thing all Android fans want

It’s no secret that Nokia‘s back in the smartphone business and the company that has the licence to produce Nokia-branded devices, HMD Global, has made a declaration that will be music to every Android fan’s ears.

In a report by TechRadar, an HMD Global spokesperson confirmed that the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 will be updated to Android O once the upcoming version of the mobile OS gets released to Google’s OEM partners.

This is an awesome move to update all their phones, even the most entry-level one, to the latest version of Android. Updating budget phones with new versions of Android is quite rare and it’s something even big, established brands struggle to do. So the fact that HMD Global outright confirmed that these phones will be getting updated is certainly good news.

It means that the company is keeping to one of their core promises when they launched the trio of Nokia Android smartphones — frequent software updates. HMD says that one of the key selling points for Nokia’s devices was frequent software updates (including monthly security updates) and a pure stock Android experience.

These updates not only serve to improve your phone when it comes to software features and performance, it also helps keep your device safe from known exploits that may have cropped up in between security patches.

We don’t know how long the Nokia phones will continue to receive Android version updates but here’s to hoping they do for at least a few years.
