The Redmi Note 4 is definitely heading to Malaysia as Xiaomi Malaysia has shared a teaser video with the tag line “A New Note Rises”. The former Redmi Note 3 is one of our favourite smartphones priced under RM1,000 offering great performance with an attractive price tag.

To recap, the Redmi Note 4 for internal markets is different from the model that was launched in China. Instead of a 10-core MediaTek helio X20 processor, it uses a frugal Snapdragon 625 processor that’s based on a 14nm fabrication process. According to Xiaomi, this provides 25% longer battery life compared to its former Snapdragon 650 processor on the Redmi Note 3. The new Redmi Note has more refinement with an all metal body and its 5.5″ Full HD display is encased underneath a 2.5D glass. There’s also a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and an infrared blaster.

For taking pictures, the Redmi Note 4 gets a main 13MP f/2.0 camera with PDAF while the front gets a 5MP f/2.0 shooter with beautification enhancement. Although the pixel count is lower, the Redmi Note 4 boasts brighter photos with its larger 1.12 micron pixel size for its main camera.

The Redmi Note 4 has a slightly bigger 4,100mAh battery that charges via microUSB with a supplied 5V/2A brick. Like the Redmi Note 3, it still uses a hybrid dual-SIM slot however, the Redmi Note 4 now supports 3G connectivity on the 2nd SIM slot and along with VoLTE. In terms of network bands, the global model has listed support for both FDD-LTE Band 3 (1800MHz), Band 5 (850Mhz) as well as TDD-LTE Band 40 (2300MHz).

In India where the international Redmi Note 4 had made its debut, there are 3 variants being offered. A baseline 2GB RAM + 32GB storage option, a 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and a range topping 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model. Out of the box, it runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 skin on top.

According to our anonymous tipster, the Redmi Note 4 will go on sale starting next Thursday, 16 March 2017. For Malaysia, we could be getting a single 3GB RAM + 32GB storage model for now and it is priced at RM799. Colour options include Gold, Black and Grey. If the purported price tag is true, this is quite value for money considering the former Redmi Note 3’s high-spec model with 3GB RAM + 32GB storage was originally priced at RM849.

All shall be revealed tomorrow (8 March 2017) at 12:00PM. Stay tuned for updates.
