The Samsung Galaxy S8 might come with an optional S Pen

The total recall of the Galaxy Note7 had left a gaping hole for those looking for a flagship smartphone with a stylus. The ageing Galaxy Note5 is the only option right now and Samsung is unlikely to announce a new Galaxy Note device until Q3 next year.

While the Galaxy S8 is expected to be released in the coming months, Galaxy Note users may have something extra to look forward to.

It is speculated that the Galaxy S8 will come with both 5″ and 6″ screen sizes. Beginning with the Galaxy Note7, Samsung will be making dual-curved AMOLED displays a standard feature across the range, so there won’t be a “flat-screen” version of the upcoming S8 flagship.

For the larger 6″ Galaxy S8, it is said that Samsung could be releasing an optional S Pen stylus for the device. This would be a nice stop-gap measure for those looking for a new “Note” with an S Pen. Details are still scarce but we reckon that the bigger Galaxy S8 will be lacking a dedicated silo to stow the stylus when not in use.

With just 2 months away to MWC 2017, rumour has it that Samsung might delay the launch of the Galaxy S8 to April at a separate Galaxy Unpacked event. According to Sammobile, there is also a chance that Samsung might retain its 3.5mm headphone jack contrary to its earlier speculation.

With just a few days left this year, Samsung has yet to reveal the root cause of its Galaxy Note7 battery issues. The full investigative report would give a clearer picture of what went wrong and an opportunity for Samsung to address those issues before they release their next flagship product.
