CelcomDigi has been awarded additional spectrum in the 900MHz and 2600MHz frequency bands.
The extra spectrum will help boost its 4G network reliability, capacity and improve coverage across Malaysia.
The telco has accepted a Notice of Award from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and paid RM381.75 million for the new allocations.
CelcomDigi gains additional 50MHz of spectrum
The latest award covers an additional 50MHz of paired spectrum across two frequency bands.
For the 2600MHz band, CelcomDigi has been awarded 2x20MHz covering 2540MHz to 2560MHz, paired with 2660MHz to 2680MHz.
According to CelcomDigi, this will enable a contiguous 2x40MHz holding in the 2600MHz band, allowing more efficient spectrum utilisation. The assignment period is four years.
In addition, the telco was also awarded 2x5MHz in the 900MHz band, covering 880MHz to 885MHz, paired with 925MHz to 930MHz.
The additional 900MHz spectrum will help to support wider and deeper network coverage for the telco and the assignment is for five years.
CelcomDigi said the additional allocations will help improve network performance and reliability while allowing the company to utilise its capital expenditure more efficiently.
RM381.75 million paid, spectrum assignments still pending
According to its Bursa Malaysia announcement, CelcomDigi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of CelcomDigi, received the Notice of Award from MCMC on 2 October 2026.
The company was selected as the successful applicant under Lot B of MCMC’s Applicant Information Package No. 1 of 2026, which was issued on 14 August 2026.
CelcomDigi accepted the Notice of Award on 15 October 2026 and paid the full price component of RM381.75 million on the same day.
The telco revealed that the payment was funded through a combination of internally generated funds and existing financing facilities.
However, it is worth highlighting that the Notice of Award does not constitute the issuance of the spectrum assignments.
The actual assignments remain subject to the fulfilment of conditions specified in the Notice of Award, MCMC’s Applicant Information Package No. 1 of 2026, and applicable regulatory requirements.
